Years ago, I struggled deeply with depression. I felt disconnected from myself, weighed down by hopelessness, and unsure if things could ever get better. 

At my lowest point, I didn't want to be here anymore. I tried to end it all. Just a week later, I found out I was pregnant with my first child. It was a moment that shook me to my core. Out of respect for my son and his father, I won’t go into the details — but I will say this: I was alone, and I was scared. It was the darkest place I’ve ever been. but somehow, that became the start of a slow, powerful journey back to myself. 

MY STORY

 Becoming a single parent wasn’t part of the plan, but it lit a fire in me. I had no choice but to rise. To survive. And eventually, to rebuild not just for him, but for me too. This work isn’t just my profession. it’s my purpose. It’s the heartbeat behind everything I do. It's my purpose in life and it's a blessing that I know my purpose so that I can use my experiences to help others. 

Through years of healing, therapy, study, and deep inner work, I slowly began to rebuild the relationship I had with myself. I’ve always been curious about the human mind, which led me to study psychology. It gave me an insider look at what drives our thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. As I applied what I was learning into my life I began to transform my mind, and I couldn’t help but think if others knew this too, they could get well too. I also knew that to truly support others, I wanted and felt an ethical need to be professionally trained and qualified, so I went on to graduate with a degree in Psychology.

Sustainable Change.

Rebuilding from the Inside Out.

I joined Toastmasters and began sharing my story about what I had experienced through depression and recovery. I went to schools, community spaces, and events around Perth, I wanted to use my story to inspire others that change is possible  and to break the stigma that so often surrounds mental health. Because stories connect us. They create space for healing, understanding, and hope. 

A question that was always asked was, “What caused the depression?” And for a long time, I couldn’t quite put my finger on it. But after a decade of healing, learning, and working with others, I started to uncover the deeper layers of my story. I realised that the narrative I had been carrying for years echoed the voices of my past teachers, parents, and early influencers saying, “You’re not good enough,” or “You can’t do that.” Those words along with many others negative views I had of myself  shaped how I saw myself… until I learned how to rewrite the story. 


I didn’t just rewrite my story I changed the lens through which I viewed myself. 



 


These were the first steps in my healing, realising that I could change my thoughts and rewrite my story. But I quickly learned that having this insight alone wasn’t enough. I needed new ways of living, day by day. That’s when I discovered Positive Psychology instead of focusing whats wrong and trying to fix that, positive psychology shifts it focus to on what is strong within you and how can we build on this. It's not just fixing what’s wrong, but building on what’s right. Positive Psychology is about building on strengths,    and well-being even in people who aren't clinical unwell.
